About us

A place for spiritual contemplation

The Manchester Khanqah is of the Naqshbandia Mujaddidia Sufi order and was one of the first of its kind in Europe. The word Khanqah is Persian in origin and describes a place set aside for Islamic spiritual contemplation, self-rectification, and study.

This spiritual aspect of Islam, known as Sufism, includes gatherings for the remembrance of Allah. Verses of the Holy Qur’an are recited, with time for meditation and reflection on the Divine Names and the condition of one’s own heart.

The centre opened in 1994 in Burnage, south Manchester, and now provides daily prayers, Friday prayer, and events throughout the Islamic calendar.

Dhikr gatherings

Live audio broadcasts of Dhikr gatherings are held daily after Fajr and Maghrib/Isha, led by Hadhrat Sheikh Asif Hussain Farooqui, Daamat Barakaatuhum (UK).
